Crystal Palace have slapped a €36 million price tag on Southampton target Christian Benteke.
It is believed that the former Villa striker is intent on joining Claude Puel at St Mary's Stadium.
According to several sources, Southampton are extremely interested in acquiring the former Villa striker.
'He's a great asset to have', remarked one insider. 'Personally, I think that Crystal Palace are mad to let him go.'
As rumours continued to spread that Benteke would be joining Southampton, former Liverpool player and football television pundit Jamie Carragher voiced his concerns about the move.
'I'm not sure that Crystal Palace know what they are doing here. Benteke is a terrific player and a price such as €36 million will not make up for losing him.'
Former Manchester United legend Gary Neville was in agreement with Carragher: 'Benteke adds so much to Crystal Palace that it would be ludicrous for them to sell him now.'
